IT'S TIME FOR ACTION (THERE'S NO OPTION): ABOUT FEMINISM

Based on the exhibition of the same name at the Migros Museum for Contemporary Art, this book focuses on confident, non-conformist feminist positions and demonstrates the need for new role models and strategies within contemporary feminist discourse.

In her essay, Amelia Jones questions the notion of post-feminism and develops, through the work of Pipilotti Rist, a model of parafeminism. Referring to Mary Beth Edelson and Annie Sprinkle, Maria Elena Buszek compares two generations of feminist artists and their respective strategies, while Katy Deepwell examines the role of women artists in art history. Mercedes Bunz considers feminism in relation to new capitalism and identifies emerging forms of oppression. The exhibition’s curator, Heike Munder, provides an overview of the featured artistic positions and opens a discussion on new role models.
