DISPLACED FRACTURES – ÜBER DIE BRUCHLINIEN VON ARCHITEKTUREN UND IHREN KÖRPERN, 2011

Drawing on the artists featured in the exhibition, the catalogue’s authors explore and expand upon the discourse between sculpture, installation and architecture and their various interrelationships. A tension prevails between form-rejecting and monumental designs, and between subjective and rational-formal gestures. The starting point for this debate is the term ‘Displaced Fractures’, which originates from medicine. This term refers to the phenomenon where fractures in bones occur at a different point from that bearing the main load. The works discussed in the catalogue can be described in terms of this phenomenon and are also regarded as representations of the human physique. Artists: Phyllida Barlow, Tacita Dean, Emilie Ding, Klara Lidén, Ulrich Rückriem, Kilian Rüthemann, Oscar Tuazon, Klaus Winichner Both the exhibition and the catalogue were produced in collaboration between the Migros Museum of Contemporary Art, Zurich, and the SIEMENS FOUNDATION.
